Photography Class – Day 10
Theme: Mystery & Lighting Effects.
A photograph can create a certain mood and communicate an idea that transcends its subject. Today, share an image that creates a sense of mystery. A lone mitten on the sidewalk. A trail leading off into the distance. Your dog’s deep brown eyes. Intrigue us with the feeling of uncertainty.

Wonder what happens here after dark? I’m intrigued by the contrast between the light and dark forms and the shadows. What kind of light would be cast at night by the one single mushroom lamp-post, or maybe there are more. What does this walkway lead to and is this safe?

Photography Class – Day Nine
Theme: Warmth & the Quality of Light.
Photography means “drawing with light,” and when you snap a picture with your camera, you use and record light to create an image. When we’re out and about, we use the sun — our most abundant light source — to capture our scenes.

Today was a sunny day in southern Michigan, but all the pretty snow is starting to melt now, and it’s not as picturesque as I would prefer. (bummer). So going back to last Fall seemed perfect…
October 2014
I always enjoy going for a walk in late afternoon with Mom. This day was perfect for capturing the light in a nature photograph. The sun painted an amazing warmth on the amber-colored leaves. The shadows are in higher contrast in this photo of the old tree. The crooked branches became more pronounced, more dramatic, and rich on the stunning blue background with soft pink clouds. The primary colors in this scene drew me in…I soaked up the moment…and the sun.

Photography Class – Day Eight
Theme: Natural World & Leading Lines.
A good photographer is a constant observer: always watching and studying a scene, from patterns in city traffic to movements in nature. A photographer notices big, sweeping changes — like the sky at dusk — but also the tiniest details.

Beautiful fuchsia colors drew me to these flowers with the little yellow centers as they leaned toward the light. There was a little wind movement through the flowers so I waited for the perfect moment. I framed up my shot with a close up and leading lines to the distant flowers — and the chair in the distance — a sunny place in the sun overlooking the yard to the lake.

Big & Point of View
Today, let’s go big. Whether inside or outside, photograph something of massive size. Feel free to interpret big in your own way, and get creative with your shot. Capture all or just part of the subject. Place it in the foreground so it takes up the entire frame. Or shoot it from afar so it appears smaller — yet still prominent.

A beautiful day in August and perfect weather for a ride through the Straits of Mackinac, the narrow waterway separating the U.S. state of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula from its Upper Peninsula. The Straits of Mackinac connect two of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

Solitude & the “Rule of Thirds.”
We’re excited about today’s theme, solitude. In addition to thinking about what it means to you, also consider the placement of the subject in your shot. How can you interpret the state of being alone, or a lonely and uninhabited place?
Solitude: Language… has created the word ‘loneliness’ to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word ‘solitude’ to express the glory of being alone.

Photography Class – Day Four
What is your idea of bliss? Is it an image of your family, laughing at the dinner table? A state of total relaxation, while lying on the beach? Your latest painting, drying on the canvas?
Bliss: complete happiness, great joy, paradise, or heaven: “wedded bliss”

The meaning of “Bliss” to me, well, I could list an entire cornucopia of utopia that can take on many forms of enjoyment…
• A “turtle” ice cream sundae with hot fudge, pecans and raspberry sauce
• My wedding day: cutting the cake
• A flower arrangement from our beautiful garden
• Designing and creating
• The finishing touches on decorating a favorite space
• A photograph that displays my jewelry design with extraordinary lighting
• A sense of accomplishment when completing a goal
• An amazing boat ride to Mackinac Island on The Great Lakes.
OK for example, when I combine my passion for handcrafted jewelry with graphic design, I’ve spent my creative time accomplishing goals and extending my skills. This, and working with amazing gemstones can be described as great joy!
I designed the graphics for our wedding, and the nautical concept was carried into my jewelry packaging designs.

Today, let’s focus on the water and your relationship to water. We have different relationships to and stories about water: how it has saved or defeated us. How it reminds us of family vacations, outdoor adventures, or the hot summers of our childhood. How it might symbolize a place we’ve left behind, or a location we dream to go.

This is one of my treasured photos of my husband and my Dad. A moment in time captured as they were yukking it up. They had just finished a technical project on the boat and it was time to relax and enjoy the evening with family and friends.

A sunrise offers the most colorful light in a landscape photograph, and my favorite. I Framed these up with my amazing IPhone 5S.
The road that leads to the boat launch. Seasons come and seasons go, but the best are those we spend on the boat. Do you see the moon? Looking forward to going down this road again soon with my family.

I signed up for the next WordPress Photography class.
My husband likes to cook breakfast on the weekends. I love his energy and creative presentation with food. Sometimes we talk about what it would be like to run a Bed and Breakfast business and how many courses we would serve.
Over the years, the meaning of “home” for me has transformed into many thoughts, feelings, places and intimate spaces. My teenage years, as I remember it, my room was my space and my private place. Later, after I finally purchased my first house, my garden was my home. As I look back on my life, I wonder what the future will bring. Here and now, knowing that the meaning of home is right where I am is just perfect…Do you see the smiley tomato face?
